So where are you up to? Did you make a sunset or sunrise? I think the trick is making those tiny squares work in the way they should, but if they don't, it doesn't matter! I think I've made Aurora lights instead.... but to continue on, this week we are moving away from squares unless you choose not to of course...

I've been having fun with this challenge! First up, I did a google search and came up with some really beautiful sunsets or sunrises. I picked one of the paintings from here: Google Search to provide me with inspired. There are many many beautiful images that it took me quite some time to chose. I even ended up watching a painting video which helped inspire my process.

stitch-along challenge - bright colorful half inch squaresDid you get your little squares cut up? If not, there is still plenty of time. I made a start but think I will need to add more. I have sorted them into three groups. Blues, reds and yellow/orange. I do think I will add some more bright yellow squares because these mainly look orange!

This month our theme is going to be to use scraps - lots of scraps so I hope you have some.... if not, then charm squares will do. Focus on bright colors, but you'll need some softer colors and darker ones as well but the main should be brights. Select reds, oranges, yellows, blues, and purples... throw in a few teal colors as well if you like. Remember just use your scraps!

Time to continue on from yesterday's post! For my second design, I switched around how I did the stitching. Still starting with the circles, I free-motion stitched around the raw edge to keep them in place, but left them at that, deciding to add any couching after the quilting was completed.

It took me a bit to get started with finishing off my pieces, mainly because I knew I had quite a bit of work ahead of me so had to find some designated time when I knew I wouldn't get interrupted. I decided I liked the split level display so immediately cut the three pieces apart to work on them separately.... starting with the leaves project, I knew I needed to start by stitching around the raw edges of the circles. I used a pale lemon thread for this which matched the fabric.

This week I needed to make 'windows' in my cover fabric to see the best sections of my project. As I checked each project I noticed there were only a few areas that I really didn't want to highlight so I decided to do this a little different. I used the computer to help me determine where to place the windows.

This is going to be my most favorite week of all! I think I'll call it Windows :) You'll need 3 pieces of paper or card this week about the same size as your three projects - not essential, but I think it will make it easier - and some extra fabric.
