You can only imagine how thrilled I was when I discovered one of my applique patterns on the cover of Clotilde's Catalog for their February 2011 issue. I almost feel famous <grin> Today I discovered my "Array of Color" applique pattern featured on Clotilde's website and on their catalog cover.

Teddy Quilt Jigsaw

I always consider piecing a quilt to be a little like a jigsaw puzzle, all the pieces have to fit just right. This jigsaw is especially for my sister and her twins. I made this quilt for the twins and have recently published it as a quilt pattern. Yes I made two, and then another as the sample quilt. It's called "I love Teddy". There are six appliqued teddy bears all wearing different colored vests while the background is made of jewel colored square-in-a-square blocks. I would consider the piecing to be advanced but the applique is easy using my fusible blanket stitch technique (full details included in the pattern). Read more about this pattern here >>

Blueberry Pancakes from scratch

Posted by Ruth on 26 January 2011 | 2 Comments

If you are a follower of my daughter's blog you will know that I am staying with her for a few weeks. Last week, she hinted to me, not once but three times, there were blueberries in the fridge that should be used before they go bad. "Mum you should make blueberry pancakes for breakfast." Sounds good, but getting around to doing it is another story.

I've been playing with screen casting and found it was a great tool to get the word out. In the following screencast I show you what it's actually like inside a class at the Academy of Quilting. It would be great to hear of other ideas on how you can use screencasts. Leave me a comment or email me your suggestions.

10 years of online teaching

This year, 2011 marks my 10th anniversary of online teaching. I totally love teaching online as I get to meet so many wonderful quilters from all over the world. Man, I just cannot believe how fast 10 years has gone. I discovered Quilt University after talking to a teaching colleague in late 2000. She mentioned teaching online and I was fascinated. I asked her for further details and she put me onto Quilt University which is run by Carol Miller. I contacted Carol and asked her if she would be interested in any of my designs which I had on my website. At roughly the same time I was publishing my first few quilt patterns. Wow that seems so long ago now.

Three Quilt Jigsaw

A new jigsaw this week. Instead of a single quilt I decided to make a jigsaw out of this photo of three quilts. It's amazing how that turquoise color looks all the same in each quilt! Try changing the cut - button on the left side. Increase the amount of pieces to make it more challenging - I dare you! Enjoy...
