Friday Flower Aster

I think the thing I love about Asters is they come in so many different colors. Lots of bright colors in fact. Because of all their bright colors I couldn't decide which color to use so I made my flower block using two shades of pink and two shades of purple. I didn't have a 'real' photo of asters so checked out the Wikipedia online for an image which I've shared here.

I made my flowers all in one piece mainly because I wanted all the petals of each flower cut from the same fabric. It would be a whole lot more work to make them individually which isn't needed for fusible applique. However, if you are appliqueing these by hand, it would be a lot easier to make them individually.

Each center is made in yellow using a free-motion zigzag to attach them. The uneven stitching creates a more realistic look to the flower.

I can just see how these asters could make a bright and cheery garden display. At least with this applique block, I know they will always bloom.
