Friday Flower Dianthus

Dianthus is this week's flower. Common names for Dianthus are pinks, carnations and sweet william. All names I'm sure you have heard before. As you can probably guess by the name "pink" dianthus mostly come in shades of pink. They can also be white, yellow and red.

Here is a closer look at one of the flowers.

I based my block on a single flower.

As I looked a many different images of dianthus I found that some of the flower have smooth edges and others are very shaggy looking. This block can be made with either.

I made the stems a little different than I usually do. This time I fused a rectangle of fabric and just free-formed cut it up.

I put it all together to create my dianthus block.
