The Vineyard - quilt pattern
Finally today I launched my new quilt pattern. It has been waiting to happen for a while but I was somewhat putting it off. My creation, "The Vineyard", a serene and quiet setting where the sun nourishes the grape to produce the most wonderful wine. Ahhhh yes, wine. I'm sipping quietly on a red wine as I type.
My new pattern is called "The Vineyard". It is all applique except for the borders which are the only straight stitching on this quilt. I used fusible webbing, my favorite technique as it holds all the pieces in place while I stitch. I use a light web so the needle doesn't get gummed up.
This quilt was inspired by my "Red Red Wine" quilt made 10 years ago (seen below). I wanted to make a mini version for the class to update some of my work as well as add videos, but this design I modified so I could transform it into a quilt pattern. "Red Red Wine" was too large to do that successfully however has always been a wonderful online class to teach my layered and cut-work techniques.
"The Vineyard" is all standard applique, no special techniques. I use soft-edge applique with fusible, but there is no reason why you cannot use any method you prefer. I add all the stitching using free-motion including the embroidered thatched roof and highlights on the grapes. This gives added dimension.
It has been fun creating this quilt and reminds me of the vineyards in my hometown of Nelson where, as a teenager I worked harvesting grapes one year. It was a fun outdoor job where grapes were plentiful and delicious at that.
Now I'm ready to move on to my next design, but I'll let you into a little secret, I've already made a start on it and I hope this one won't take nearly as long to publish. What will be next?
