Quilting Fun - adding an extra touch

Last Wednesday on my free-motion quilting post I used a photo of a pinecone. Let me refresh your memory with this photo or you can look back at how I created it here: Last week's quilting.

This week I wanted to take this quilting design a step further. I added some green thread work to represent pine needles. Now it really looks like a pinecone!

Then I wondered how it might look by adding some color. As it happened a friend had given me some fabric paints so I thought now was a good time to try these out.

I added brown to the pinecone with a white highlight at the bottom of each seed. This is how it ended up.

I can think of all different ways I could use this - it would make a great block design or repeats up a border. How about a table runner with matching placemats for Thanksgiving? I had a lot of fun with these paints, might just need to look at some extra learning with classes on the Academy. I know there are several that would be just as much fun and take my creativity a whole lot further.
