Over the past week, I have been working with Anita on getting her newest pattern published. It's been a lot of fun discovering all the various ways her Folded Ribbon Heart can work in blocks and quilts or table runners so today I wanted to share some of the great points this pattern has.

Anita designed the pattern as a scrap quilt but really it can be made any way you like - one color or many colors - and the heart looks very 3-D as the name suggests (folded ribbon) as long as you coordinate the shades according to the pattern...... yet it can be just as beautiful if you do not want that 3-D effect and simply use contrast between the heart and background fabrics.

Even though this pattern is based on 12" blocks, Anita includes 3 different size ribbon blocks and shows you how to use them to create the larger block with or without the 2 simplified blocks included and how these can be positioned within the quilt or table runner - instructions for both are included. Once you have grasped the concept, the skies are the limit on arrangement and shape you want to convey of your final quilt.

Another fantastic point is the large ribbon heart pieces (not backgrounds) can all be made with 2-1/2" strips so you can buy color-coordinating jelly rolls to suit your color scheme instead of yardage..... and fat eighths work great for multiple blocks of any size.....folded ribbon heart fabric

oh and did I mention, Anita also includes foundations for the two smaller blocks just in case you prefer that method of piecing.

So this week found me sewing my first ribbon heart block....

I've been wanting to make a red and black quilt for a long time and I think Anita's Folded Ribbon Heart pattern will be ideal. I think I have the perfect fabric for the border!

What do you think?

It might be time to do a stash dive into my fabrics..... and determine if I have enough reds for a queen-sized quilt. I'll update you next week with what I find and any more blocks I make. See you then!
