Margaret's Fabric Portrait

Posted by Ruth on 29 September 2014 | 0 Comments

I just had to share this awesome quilt with you all. It's so real you could almost reach out and touch Margaret's grandchildren. Margaret Watson (GA) just finished making this quilt after enrolling in Marilyn Belford's class Realistic Fabric Portraits. They sure are realistic!

Margaret added some comments:

I would like to tell everyone that this class is perfect and very instructional.  Marilyn is an awesome teacher with an artist eye.  She is very patient and will answer any questions you have.  Be sure to use the forum and show your work as you go because Marilyn will help you solve problems and help you make any changes that will bring your portrait to life. She helped me see my photo in different ways that made it possible for me to bring my grand boys to life with fabric. I have a long way to go and the tips I leaned from Marilyn will help me along the way. Even my grand boys love this quilt, "Wow, mawmaw, that is me!!!!!!"

One more thing, be patient with yourself as Marilyn says,  "It's just fabric".  Mistakes/changes can be corrected with patience. And it is just like magic to see your photo develop in front of you.

Here is a closer look at their faces.margarets grandboys closeups

Thank you for sharing your quilt with us Margaret. It is so awesome to see your work. I wish more students would share their work too!

Marilyn's class is starting again this week - 3rd October, why not join her in this fabulous class and make your own portrait of your parents, children, spouse or grandchildren. They make wonderful wedding gifts too! For more details see the Academy of Quilting: Realistic Fabric Portraits
