My October Stitch Along Week 2

A friend of mine is expecting so that is who I'm focusing this challenge on. Last week I mentioned letters from the ABC's pattern so I'm going to connect both of those ideas to come up with one block.

The block will be focused on the letter "J" and with that in the pattern comes "Jam". Jam isn't all that exciting for an individual block so I decided to go on the hunt for some free clipart that begins with "J". It's not really an easy letter to work with!

I came up with.... Jelly or as it is known in the states, Jello.jelly clipart

Jellyfish....jellyfish clipart

and Jack-in-a-box.jack in a box clipart

I'm rather liking the funky Jack-in-a-box and think I'll choose that for my image.

I will keep this simple and use fusible webbing to make the block. Oops I almost forgot to reverse the image for tracing, but here is my "J" and Jack-in-a-box reversed ready to draw onto fusible.

I used my colorful squares in bright colors for the different sections. Because one square wasn't big enough for the box, I used a different fabric for the lid.

Now with them cut out, I auditioned them on the fabrics I'd chosen last week, but I found they were just too busy so instead went back to the stash and found a soft pale blue for the background.sections pressed to background fabric

The spring (neck) and eye details will be stitched, but I'll leave that until next week when I layer it with batting and backing.

Remember this block could be turned into a wall hanging, a cot quilt or a cuddle rug on the floor. Or maybe a complete ABC alphabet quilt or just a full name with additional blocks instead of a single letter. We'll see where this goes! I hope you'll check in next week.
