I'm so excited to get back to my Stitch Alongs and thinking quilting, although I still had a little trouble filling in my full grid, but only on repeated letters so that's not too bad. Here's how my grid looks:

San Francisco Bay Bridge - taken August 2016I chose a word from each row which you can see I underlined in the grid above.

I also decided to use the Bay Bridge photo (number 5) for inspiration.

Now it is time to start collecting the items for my challenge. First I collected fabrics with the following words/colors in mind.

I was thinking a colorwash effect from navy through to cream but was having some difficulty with the cream fabrics.

N = navy      C = cream      C = colorwash     O = orange

I did, however, find a nice selection of blues, including a navy through to aqua colors. Aqua is on my list so can include it too or swap it for the other work in the “A” row which is “accent”. I’ll determine that later.

Blue colorwash fabrics from navy through aqua

I pulled some fabrics I thought could work for creams, although I’m not completely happy with these fabrics. Maybe I will not use them in the colorwash but rather include them in some other way.Cream fabrics that are more pinkish or golden

Then I found one more cream colored fabric which I think will work! It has a touch of blue in it so should work wonderfully.

cream with hint of blue fabric

While I was hunting through my stash, I found a bag of precut 2½" squares. I might just use those to create the background.
Unfortunately, there were no cream fabrics among them, however there are orange squares. I need to think about how to include those in some way.

I also collected a few threads to use as well including a cream thread, so if the fabric doesn’t fit well, I can always do some cream thread stitching.

My Summary of Words

Here are the words I’ve used thus far from what I have collected:

S = square
N = navy fabric
C = cream fabric
I = inch (2½ inch squares)
C = colorwash
O = orange fabric

The remaining letters not yet included in my collection above are:

A = applique (the bridge can be appliqued in place)
F = french knot (added to the bridge - maybe to represent cars in a distance)
R = ripples (quilting in sea to create waves)
A = accent (perhaps add a yacht with orange sail on sea)
N = needleturn (because I have already added “applique”, I might need to change it because needleturn is a form of applique)
S = sea (I will create a sea under the bridge rather than the roads and cars shown in the photo)

So using the photo as my inspiration I have an idea of what I will create. I have a list of everything I need to use and selected fabrics and threads as well. How about you? Have you filled in your grid and collected your fabrics and threads yet? I will be interested to see what other words I didn't think of. I hope you'll join me this month and remember, if you wish to use the journal to record your stitch along journey, you can find it here: Creative Quilting Journal

Happy Quilting!
